C is for Chimp

I met up with Tony Brook from Spin at his studio to seek his advice with the project over a cup of tea.  He emailed me a version of this chimp a couple of days later.  Chimps and tea go together after all. I’ve simplified Tony’s original slightly, but wonder if we can’t make it even simpler?  Using the same typeface for the ears, mouth and nostrils might help?

In a population survey of West African chimpanzees living in Côte d’Ivoire, researchers estimate that this endangered subspecies has dropped in numbers by a whopping 90 percent since the last survey was conducted 18 years ago. The few remaining chimpanzees are now highly fragmented, with only one viable population living in Taï National Park.
